Orthopedic insoles prescribed by a doctor may be covered, but reimbursement depends on several factors.
Social Security reimburses a portion of the cost, calculated based on a scale that varies by shoe size.
Prescription required
To receive reimbursement from Social Security, a prescription is required. With this prescription, you are entitled to: 60% of the Social Security reimbursement base (BRSS).
Prices by shoe size:
• Pointure < 28 :25,88€ la paire
• Sizes 28–37: €28.04
• Size > 37: €28.86
Example: For a size 40, the reimbursement is €17.31 (i.e., €28.86 × 60%).
Frequency of treatment:
• Children under 16: one pair every 6 months
• Adults (16 and older): one pair per year
Most of the additional coverage is provided by private health insurance plans. Some offer an annual flat rate, while others cover a percentage of the Social Security rate—sometimes up to 500%—which can cover a large portion, or even the entire cost. Plans designed for people with diabetes often include enhanced coverage.
