From November 10 to 15, the 700 pharmacists in the Vistapod network are offering their diabetic patients the opportunity to have their feet checked for free. The goal is to prevent one of the major complications of diabetes: diabetic foot.
A podometric assessment requires a detailed analysis of static and dynamic postures. The VistapodPro platform, available exclusively in pharmacies, is a medical device that accurately identifies pressure points and postural issues, whether the patient is standing still or in motion. The software generates a comprehensive report that enables the pharmacist to offer personalized solutions to each patient.
Although regular foot exams are strongly recommended for people with diabetes, many do not do so, especially in the early stages of the disease, when complications are still asymptomatic. Warning signs include loss of sensation, bruising, swelling, tingling, cramps, as well as muscle atrophy and loss of mobility in joints and tendons. These changes alter gait and contribute to friction or areas of excessive pressure, which can lead to severe plantar pain and neuropathic pain.
In France, diabetic foot affects about 20% of people with diabetes and can lead, in the most severe cases, to partial or total amputation. Every year, nearly 10,000 people undergo amputation due to diabetes.
